Volunteers pre and post project, learning and reflection tool
Travel Teachers 'Creating Global Impact Course' has been developed to provide our volunteers with access to intuitive learning resources,information, support and guidance leading up to and following your global experience with us. We will encourage you to learn about the context of volunteering abroad as well as reviewing and reflecting upon your own skills before, during and after your experience.
Volunteering will give you the opportunity to develop and practise new skills and will create motivation and enthusiasm which can help your outlook in more general terms. Volunteering will also introduce you to new ideas, thinking and ways of viewing the world.
It is well recognised in the research that volunteering helps people develop confidence; the act of contributing and adding value to an organisation and/or the environment helps develop confidence, as does engaging with new networks of people and becoming part of a new organisation. The ethos of volunteering is about building respect and developing positive values and beliefs.
Volunteering will give you the opportunity to develop self-reliance and work in new teams in new settings. It will allow you to positively contribute to global communities and wider society.
The delivery of this learning is flexible to meet your own needs and availability, you may access this tool leading up to, during and after your experience with us.
The course promotes the development and creation of a digital portfolio in the form of blogging, capturing images, videos and items which can support your project reflection. You will have ongoing support in the shape of your assigned instructor throughout your journey with us.
Pre Departure Course Aims
- To provide participants with an understanding of what volunteering means and an understanding of the objectives of Travel Teachers global engagement projects.
- To facilitate the development of skills gained by participating in a global engagement project with Travel Teacher and making an effective contribution towards our projects
- To understand the benefits of volunteering abroad to the volunteer and to the organisation
- To facilitate a review and reflection on the individuals aptitude for, and attitude towards volunteering abroad.
